What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking a Year-Round - R&D Undergraduate Intern to join our Global Security Systems Analysis team! In this position you will perform entry-level work within a technical science and engineering environment working in conjunction with Sandia staff. This will require technical and theoretical applications of the scientific method to recognize and formulate problems, to collect data through observation and experimentation and application of data analysis techniques, and to formulate and test hypotheses about the uses and deployment of advanced technologies in support of US nonproliferation and nuclear security goals.

On any given day you may be called on to:

  • Perform critical thinking activities

  • Perform multidisciplinary literature searches for various projects

  • Produce reports based upon distilled and synthesized information and analysis of complex source material

  • Conduct analyses in support of national and regional security programs

  • Use advanced research methods to help answer complex questions

  • Other project tasks dependent on successful candidate qualifications and experience.

    These duties will require the application of science and engineering principles in analysis of advanced concepts and technologies for nonproliferation, nuclear security, nuclear safeguards, and international export control regimes

Qualifications We Require:

You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

  • Currently attending and enrolled full time in a related accredited undergraduate program

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0

  • Ability to work up to 25 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer

  • U.S. citizenship

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including presentation skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Ability to provide a writing sample upon request

  • Interest in systems research and analysis pertaining to safeguards, security, and nonproliferation

  • Knowledge of programming languages and tools applicable to data analysis such as Python, Matlab, R, SAS, Stata, or other similar programming languages

  • Capability to prioritize and effectively manage multiple tasks

  • Ability to work independently but also be productive in a teaming situation

  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary environment

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
